Get Loud
GET LOUD and LOUDER AND LOUDER STILL
Things look different from this side of the elections. I took heart in knowing that America got the President it deserved, for better or worse. I take heart in Starhawks words that the road ahead is likely to be rocky, hard and steep, but it may be a shorter path to the end. We cannot know. But we've got to get to work now. Okay, take a deep rest if you need to. The world won't come to an end yet: there is still some old growth standing, they have not yet taken away our right to an abortion or our right to die, they have not yet inshrined the 10 comandments. But they are killing women and children in Iraq and Afganistan and they are threatening more. So take a quick well needed rest and then put on your walking shoes, for we have some work to do.
Pick a cause, pick a cause that makes your heart rate rise, we can't each do it all, but we can each do our part, we can each do what we do best. So pick a cause and give it all you can. Practice speaking loudly! Practice saying scary words over and over and over again: vagina, vagina, vagina. Say them out loud. Say them in front of a mirror. Say them to your best friend or to your dog or to a tree. Practice speaking the scariest truth you can think of. Practice saying what you know in your heart to be true.
Get up in the morning and write a letter first thing. Give it 15 minutes of your time. Write to the President, a senator, your newspaper editor. Practice saying the truth to people in power. Wear buttons on your hat, mine say: Jesus was a liberal and Happy Families for all. Funny how some folks read that second one and they want to agree until they think about it for a minute. Then the are puzzled when they realize they have been arguing against happy families for all. Wear a T-shirt or a button that speaks the truth loudly. Don't be afraid anymore.
If we despair we lose the war not only the battle. It is time to Get Loud. It is time to speak up and be heard. No holding back now,
